These smooth to moderately irregular stones are mild to moderately radiodense depending on size (larger are more radiopaque)

Medical dissolution is most effective for bladder and kidney stones. Urethral stones, especially those causing urethral obstruction are usually removed by another minimally invasive strategies or retrohydropropulsed back into the urinary bladder and removed surgically.

• Repeat urine cultures with possible infection-induced struvite (e.g. cat with perineal urethrostomy).

Consider medication to reduce urinary pain, if needed.

Hill's c/d multicare, others. Kibble and canned formulations are effective.

X-ray every 2 to 3 weeks. Reduced urolith size/density/number indicates effective therapy, an accurate mineral prediction, and the need to continue dissolution. No change or increase in urolith size/density/number is an indication to verify compliance (urine culture, urinalysis) or consider other urolith removal strategies.
