Radiographie

These radiographic stones may be attached to the bladder wall (i.e.not in the dependent portion of the bladder) and have the radiographic density of bone.

Informations générales

Osseous transformation of the urothelium is uncommon. There is little know as to why this occurs and if recurrence is likely.

Diagnostique

• Biopsy urothelium to identify cause for urothelial transformation into pathological calcification (e.g. neoplasia, trauma, ischemia) or ectopic ossification (e.g. trauma, bleeding, inflammation, genetic variants).

Médical

• Most cases are idiopathic and treatment is unknown. • Reduction in urine specific gravity and changes in urine pH may reduce nucleation of minerals over osseous surfaces. See specific urolith recommendations (e.g. CaOx) for preventing mineral types that formed over osseous portion at at z.umn.edu/mnurolithRX. • PUBLICATON: Ectopic Bone as a Nidus for Calcium Oxalate Urocystolithiasis in a Cat, Lulich, J.P., Prasad, H.S., Manno, M. and Bagley, B. (2017), J Vet Intern Med. doi:10.1111/jvim.14859.

Nutritionnel

• Canned foods or adding water to food may lower specific gravity and minimize nucleation or minerals that form over osseous portion.

Surveillance

Medical imaging every 12 months to detect recurrence. Recurrence is an indication for further evaluation and alternative treatment strategies.
